Jason A. Rodriguez is a dancer, choreographer, and actor and a member of the House of Xtravaganza. He met José Rodriguez two years ago when José was a student in one of his dance classes, and ever since he has been his mentor. They formed a chosen family where Jason took on the role of a father committing to support José not only in his artistic career but also in life. The film features Jason and José voguing together in the streets of New York for the first time. The use of classical music and black and white sets up a nostalgic New York streetscape that detaches voguing from its usual ballroom surroundings. The film plays with variations in speed, highlighting the precision of their movements in slow motion. It creates a slow-paced rhythmic feeling in the emptied-out streets of a city known for its fast-paced energy. The iconic setting provides a backdrop for the exploration of new ideas about movement, identity, and family.
DANCERS: Jason Rodriguez (AKA Slim) and Jose Lapaz-Rodriguez
